A KS2 comprehension activity exploring the mourning period which marks the period after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest-reigning monarch.

The task features eight questions increasing in difficulty and three challenge questions for differentiation. Answers are included. Questions are designed to practise both information retrieval and inference skills and to develop reading fluency.

Queen Elizabeth II passed away peacefully on 8 September 2022. Plans of what would happen in the event of the monarch’s death have been in place since the 1960s; let’s take a look at what is likely to happen over the coming weeks.

Mourning

Mourning someone is when you feel sad that someone has died and you do not try to hide that feeling. Lots of people around the world are mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II and they show that they are mourning in different ways.
