This lovely resource takes some of the moving tributes from world leaders on the death of Queen Elizabeth II as a starting point for five classroom activities to reflect on her legacy.

It includes a range of creative tasks, including an acrostic poem task for the word 'Monarch', a class debate and a tribute collage.

Example tasks from the resource:

  1. Commemorating The Queen. Read through the tributes as a class, group or pair. Talk about what each leader is trying to say about Queen Elizabeth II and why the tribute works as a successful way to remember a Queen.
  2. Ranking. Which ones are the most successful in your opinion? Rank them from 1-4, with 1 being the best tribute. Share your ideas with the class. You could take a vote to see which one is the favourite overall.
  3. Write your own acrostic poem. Pick out a key word that really stands out for you from each world leader’s tribute to Queen Elizabeth II. Write an acrostic poem for the word ‘Monarch’ using the layout below. If you can, try to add in the key words you found from the tributes to give your poem gravitas (sense of seriousness).
